Zep Inc.
03  /  How you introduce yourself

Every buyer meets the same introduction. This is it.

Not a critique of a web page. This is where the company’s idea of itself is stated most plainly, so it is the fastest way to see how far that idea sits from the one 1,428 customers have already written down.

The first line on the page

“You are $50.00 away from FREE SHIPPING.” The opening sentence is about a cart threshold.

The hero sells a season

A four-slide carousel. Back-to-School, and Memorial Day still in rotation in August.

A season is a reason to buy now. It is not a reason to buy Zep.

The closest the page gets

“Tell us about your mess. We’ll find the right Zep solution for you,” above a dropdown.

This is the right question. Given the bimodal ratings, matching a buyer to the right product may be the highest-value thing on the site. It is a grey select box.

Then the proof that is not proof

200,000+ longstanding customers across six continents. Not one of the 1,428 reviews mentions a continent.

What is missing

Zero customer reviews appear anywhere on this page.

There are 1,428 of them on the product pages, and 602 say the same two words.

Why the page looks like this

“Zep is an incredible brand with a foundation that is the envy of this industry, trusted by professionals for 85 years and increasingly by consumers who demand real performance.”

Tim Feast, Chief Executive Officer · Zep press release · 13 April 2026

“Consumers who demand real performance” is the right read, and 602 reviews back it. The page is not built to answer that. It is built to move a cart over a shipping threshold. Both are legitimate jobs for a page to do. Only one of them is a position, and the other one is currently doing all the talking.
